Born in Liverpool, England, Samantha Messias is a self-taught hyperrealist artist whose work explores themes of resilience, compassion, connection, and the value of life. Working primarily in graphite and charcoal, Samantha creates highly detailed drawings that often blur the line between drawing and photography, inviting viewers to pause and engage more deeply with both the subject and the story behind each piece.
Art has been a constant part of Samantha’s life since childhood. Having experienced significant adversity at a young age, drawing became a way to process, communicate, and transform emotion long before she understood its therapeutic value. What began as a personal form of healing eventually evolved into a lifelong pursuit of artistic excellence.
Entirely self-taught, Samantha discovered hyperrealism in 2013 and dedicated herself to mastering the discipline through years of independent study, practice, and perseverance. Her commitment to technical excellence has led to the creation of a diverse body of work spanning portraiture, wildlife conservation, social awareness, and personal transformation, united by a common thread of empathy and human connection.
In 2022, Samantha was selected as a featured artist on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year, where her portrait of Dame Stella Rimington received national recognition and was later acquired by Dame Stella herself. Her work has been exhibited in the UK and internationally, including at Agora Gallery in New York, and has received recognition from public figures including Jessie J, Adele’s team, Dame Stella Rimington, and Frank Bruno, whose signed portrait was later sold at a charity auction event.
Today, Samantha continues to create from her studio in Chester, producing original works and commissions while inspiring others through her story, her teaching, and her belief in the transformative power of art.
